Your lights
An 18-watt compact fluorescent lamp is more cost-efficient than a 50-watt incandescent bulb. Always keep the fluorescent tube dust-free as dust may reduce its brightness by as much as 50%. Change the fluorescent tube’s starter as soon as the light starts to blink.
Your Flat Iron
Try to do your ironing by bulk. Ideally, once a week at these times: 4:00 am – 7:00 am or 10:00 am – 12:00 mn. It’s better to iron clothing made of thicker fabric first. Turn off the iron and use the remaining heat to iron clothing made of thinner fabric.
Your Fan
We recommend that you keep the fan on a steady mode, and on a lower oscillation level.
Your TV and Stereo
Avoid putting the TV set on a stand-by mode as it still consumes electricity. Don’t put the volume up too much. Take the plug out of the socket if you’re using a transformer. Avoid using more than one TV set at the same time.
Your Fridge
Keep your fridge in a clean and well-ventilated spot. Refrain from opening your fridge too many times. It’s best to let food cool down before putting it into your fridge. If the freezer section develops ice more than ¼ inch thick, better defrost it. It’s available to clean its body on a weekly basis; and its condenser, twice a year.
Always keep the condenser coil and gasket clean.
If you’re buying a new fridge, opt for one labeled with the Energy Efficiency Ratio or EER label. The higher the EER factor, the lower the energy consumption.
Your Stove
Opt for a stove with an automatic/electronic ignition system. Use LPG or Liquefied Petroleum Gas.
Your Aircon
Limit your usage to 8 hours. After all, most units come with timers now. If you’re going to buy a new unit, choose one with a high Energy Efficiency Ratio or EER. Look at the yellow EER label for reference.
Choose the unit with the right number of horsepower that will be ideal for your room’s size. Always keep the filter clean. Don’t let warm air get into an air-conditioned room.
