It's been said that 80% of all infectious diseases are transmitted by touch. Hand washing is one of the easiest and best ways to prevent infection. Let’s learn how to do it right.

Infections can come from anywhere. Washing your hands from time to time might not keep you away from all of them, but it can definitely help avoid a few. Hand washing is simple, requires just water and soap or in absence of that, a sanitizer.

Why you should wash your hands

People interact with each other, shake hands, go to various places, use various objects and even use common washrooms. It is important to remain germ-free after doing all this. Touching your nose, mouth or eyes with unclean hands can also infect you. Frequent hand washing does not make you germ-free but reduces the transfer of bacteria, viruses and other microbes to a certain limit.
When you should wash your hands

Wash your hands before:

·         Cooking or eating food
·         Wearing or taking off contact lenses
·         Cleaning wounds and giving medicine
·         Treating a sick person
·         Playing with a newborn baby

Wash your hands after:

·         Having food
·         Coming home from anywhere
·         Using pesticides or other agents like mosquito or cockroach killers
·         Using the toilet
·         Touching and playing with animals
·         Cleaning wounds or treating a sick person
·         Blowing your nose, sneezing or coughing into your hand
·         Using chemicals in the garden, throwing garbage or any other such household chores

How to wash your hands

You wash your hands everyday and might think it is a silly to read a “how-to” on it but it is always better to refresh your ideas and remind yourself on how to do things right.

Generally, handwash/soap and water are used to wash hands. The simple steps are as follows:

·         Wet your hands
·         Apply soap or hand wash
·         Form lather
·         Rub both the hands. Try to clean in between fingers, under the nails and the back of your hands along with wrists. Rub for some 20 seconds
·         Pat dry with a clean or disposable towel or use air dryer

When to use a sanitizer

Alcohol based sanitizer can be used when water and soap are not available. It is important that your sanitizer contain at least 60% alcohol.

How to use a sanitizer

·         Take a small quantity of sanitizer in your hands and rub it to wet your hands completely.
·         Rub it till your hands are dry.

Kids and hand washing

Good habits must be cultivated from childhood. Kids must be encouraged to wash hands regularly. The best way to teach them is by being a good example. Tell them to sing a line of their favourite song as they wash their hands to stop them from rushing the process

It is okay for the kids to use sanitizers. They are not harmful. Teach them how to use it properly. Warn them strictly to rub till the alcohol dries. Store the container out of their reach or they will be tempted to use it time and again either for the smell or for the cold feeling it gives for few moments before getting dried.

Wash your way to health

Though soap may not kill every virus it comes across, it definitely decreases the viral count and brings it below the infectious threshold. It is neither time consuming, nor does it take any major effort. Wash your hands often to fall sick less often.

If you need to trim belly bloat in just a few days, here is your four-step healthy plan to making it happen, fast.
A few quick tips to reduce water retention, relieve gas, and eliminate heavy solids to have you feeling better and lighter.

What to avoid: Salt, salt-based seasonings, and highly processed foods.
Swap it out: Flavor your meals with salt-free seasoning blends or fresh or dry herbs.
The rationale: When you consume a lot of salt, you'll temporarily retain more fluid, contributing to a sluggish feeling, a puffy appearance, and extra water weight.

What to avoid: Alcohol, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and acidic fruit juices
How to swap: Plain tap water
The rationale: Coffee and acidic drinks can irritate your gastrointestinal tract, causing swelling.

What to avoid: Black pepper, nutmeg, cloves, chili powder, hot sauces, onions, garlic, mustard, barbecue sauce, horseradish, ketchup, tomato sauce, and vinegar
Swap it out: Give dishes a flavor boost with fresh or dried herbs like dill, basil, mint, sage, tarragon, and rosemary.
The rationale: Spicy foods can stimulate the release of stomach acid, which can cause irritation.

What to avoid: Chewing gum
Swap it out: If you want something crunchy, reach for some nuts, like roasted or raw unsalted sunflower seeds. If you want a minty taste, brush your teeth instead.
The rationale: By chewing gum, you are also swallowing air, which gets trapped in your gastrointestinal tract and causes pressure and bloating.

What do avoid: Legumes, cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, onions, peppers, and citrus fruits
Swap it out: Cook up green beans, mushrooms, and squash.
The rationale: It boils down to the fact that certain foods simply create more gas in your gastrointestinal tract.

What to avoid: High-carb foods such as bagels, pasta, pretzels, and cereals
Swap it out: Use one slice of whole grain bread for your sandwich at lunch and add extra protein, such as turkey slices. Swap your afternoon pretzels for nuts or seeds. At dinner, stick to brown rice if you need a starch.
The rationale: "Your muscles store a type of carbohydrate called glycogen," writes Prevention. "Every gram of glycogen is stored with about three grams of water." Unless you're running a marathon or triathlon soon, you won't likely need to be stockpiling carbs. Cut your carbs, and you'll temporarily train your body to access this stored fuel and burn it off, while also draining off excess stored fluids, according to Prevention.

skimlinks

Today, roles have been reversed. We are not a gender-driven society, or at least moving towards one that is not defined by gender. There is no shame if a man wants to become a chef today. It’s okay, too if you are not interested in a corporate life anymore and are much happier when you stay at home, taking care of the household chores. There’s no shame in being a househusband. It’s actually quite awesome.

Here’s why:

1. No Monday blues

No more rushing to work, struggling to finish a presentation, getting loaded with more work. No more cribbing on Sundays about the impending Monday. No more whining about how you hate your job.

2. No horrible boss

No more dealing with rude bosses, or unreasonable colleagues. No more dreading facing him or her. No more pressure to finish business reports or reach business targets. No more dealing with office politics.

3. Drinking hot afternoon over a fancy lunch

Once in a while you can pop over to a nice Italian or Spanish restaurant and have a nice lunch with some beer. You can treat yourself once a week. And an afternoon beer is that much more delicious than an evening one.

4. More relaxing

As a househusband you get to be more relaxed. Your only worry possibly will be the maid not coming on time, or curbs on the water supply. You get to leave all the stress related to an office job. No more driving to work on increasingly busy roads. No more getting your BP high because of idiotic, rash drivers. You will breathe easy and be much calmer.

5. Bonding with kids

If you’ve just had a kid, you couldn’t have asked for more. You get to spend all the lovely time with your son or daughter. You get to play with them, feed them, bathe them, dress them up, read them stories. There can’t be a more rewarding job. You will be able to see them grow.

6. Work from the luxury of your home

You can pick up odd jobs to increase your income. You can take up things like resume writing or essay writing for MBA students etc. If you’re an IT person, you can do some freelance work in your domain. There are tons of things you can do. You can blog, even. Working from home is great.

7. Happier married life

If the house is spotless and your kids are fed and happy, your wife will be the happiest. If she doesn’t have to come home and do all the housework on top of it, she will fall in love with you every day. She will appreciate what you do and your married life will be much stronger and happier.

8. Patience and empathy

Being a househusband makes you respect women more. You realise how much work they do day in, day out. Taking care of the house and kids will teach you things about yourself, things you thought you never had. Patience and empathy, for example, for others.

9. You get to cook what you want

That’s right. Get all the recipe books and whip up some gorgeous meals. You can cook what you like and impress your wife or girlfriend. Follow shows like Masterchef Australia for added help and inspiration.

10. Improved health

Once you get around to doing housework and playing with your children and doing a grocery, or garbage run, you will become fitter and healthier. Much healthier than sitting on an office chair for eight hours straight.

Ang Alamat ng Niyog (The Legend of the Coconut)

You and your family can cope best by preparing for disaster before it strikes. Having the right supplies kit is one way to prepare in advance. Once disaster hits, you won’t have enough time to shop or look for supplies.

Before the typhoon:
  •  Power may go out during a typhoon. Keep flashlights, lanterns, candles, matches and/or lighters handy.
  •  Fill up a few gallons of drinking water and some for washing, cooking and bathing.
  •  Secure all important documents in plastic bags and store them in as safe area.
During the typhoon:
  •  If evacuation is unnecessary, make sure to stay inside your homes and away from    windows. If you are n low-lying area and/or do not have a concrete home or storm shutters, consider seeking shelter elsewhere.
  •  Stay INDOORS
  •  Turn off and unplug all appliances. Shut off the main gas valve and power switch.
      In case of flood:
  •  Make sure that the main electrical power switch or circuit breaker is turned off.
  •  When you need to touch a switch and the floor is already wet, dry yourself and stand on a dry board or carton or table and/or wear boots.
  •  Wear a rubber gloves or use a well insulated pliers to remove wiring.
  •  Wear rubber gloves and rubber sole shoes, remove mud and dirt from your main circuit breaker or fuse including its enclosures.
  •  If electrical wirings or connections are soaked, allow the wires to dry completely. Drying may take days, depending on extent of water damage and external temperature.
  •  Make sure that the appliance itself is completely dry, have it serviced or checked by a licensed electrician. Do not turn on damaged and wet electrical appliances.
After the typhoon:
  •  Check for injuries and immediately apply first aid. Do not move the severely injured, unless they are in immediate danger. Call emergency services if you are in need of actual assistance.
  •  Be aware of hazards. Check for damaged electrical wirings, broken glass and structural damage.
  • Assess your emergency supplies such as food and water and determine your priority needs.
  •  Stay away from damaged areas, fallen wires and downed trees. Do not enter the areas that are blocked off by authorities. And do not go sightseeing in disaster areas.
  •  Checked with your neighbors. Lend a hand on to those in need.
      Your supplies list:
  •  Candles, matches and Flashlights with extra batteries
  •  Emergency Light and Radio
  •  Several bottles of drinking water
  •  First aid kit
  •  Portable stove
  •  Non-perishable food such as canned meat and instant noodles.
  •  Rubber gloves and rubber boots
  •  Rain coat
  •  Toiletries
  •  Cellular phone with charged up batteries

The ten planets that rule in the world of astrology are the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.

These planets are the factors and guides that we look upon in order to know the contents of the astrology charts. The horoscopes, zodiac signs and birth charts are all given significance and meaning by the astrology planets namely the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Each of these is a symbol of strength and weakness of an individual. It has a great connection with one's social life, future and personality. All planets from the Sun till Saturn are inner planets that denote one's personal traits. On the other hand, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are the astrological planets that rules over who one will be in the bigger picture.

Sun

The ruler of Leo is the Sun. It is the source of life and is also the center of the solar system. It stands for one's individuality and fundamental energy. The Sun embodies our mindful, enthusiastic life force, our concentration in our vision in life, and the persona we are striving to be in the long run. It is the focal point of our potential and distinctiveness as a human being. When we abide to our heart's desire, we are acknowledging this planet.

Moon

The ruler of Cancer is the Moon. It symbolizes the sentiments and emotional state of a person. This is our feeling nature. It is mainly a female energy which is linked to the past and to our family roots. We honor and salute the Moon when we care for others as we care for ourselves.

Mercury

The ruler of Gemini and Virgo is Mercury. It denotes the brain and one's opinion and thinking. Mercury, otherwise known as the Trickster or Winged Messenger, focuses on the mind. It is our brainpower and intellectual outlook. It thinks, communicates, observes, sees, and hears, what is significant to us.

Venus

The ruler of Taurus and Libra is Venus. Venus stands for love and charm or attraction. It also symbolizes creativity. Venus is the astrological planet that implies temptation, attractiveness, art, harmony, poise and treatment. This also includes your social skills and your ability to attract other people. Another thing is it suggests how you are with money.

Mars

The ruler of Aries and Scorpio is Mars. This planet is a symbol of desire and determination. The red planet gives us the passion and energy to go for what we really want and need so as to make things happen. But when it is not placed in the right spot, Mars may denote rage, accidents, and harm.

Jupiter

The ruler of Sagittarius is Jupiter. Its meanings are faith and good fortune. Jupiter is one of the social planets which has longer orbits and denotes our social life. This is the planet of luck. It also signifies one's drive to explore and grow to learn and acquire more opportunities and freedom too. When it is in good light, Jupiter leads to success, recognition and long distance trips. But on the other hand, you could be lazy when its light doesn't shine your way. Jupiter also governs over faith and belief.

Saturn

The ruler of Capricorn is Saturn. Obligation and limitation are its focal concerns. This is also a social planet same as Jupiter. It is the slowest among the inner planets and it provides us with the lessons we get in out encounters. It symbolizes restrictions, safety and inhibition. We are considered as an adult by the age of 29 because by this time, Saturn has made its way through the rest of the Zodiac signs.

Uranus

The ruler of Aquarius is Uranus. This outer planet focuses on one's eccentricity and development. This is the planet of sudden changes that usually cost traditions to be swerved aside. It results to rebelliousness, rapid change of thoughts, disturbances to the society and simply makes one upset. But Uranus also rules over creativity, innovation and distinctness.

Neptune

The ruler of Pisces is Neptune. It denotes vagueness and fantasies. This outer planet brings misconception, misunderstanding and trickery. This is linked to our imaginings and sacred enlightenment. Neptune governs the upheavals in this world. On the good side, Neptune governs over visionaries and people who are opulent and oozing with charisma. On the darker side, it symbolizes aspiring thoughts and wishes and daydreaming.

Pluto

The ruler of Scorpio is Pluto. Supremacy and renovation are its central theme. This outer planet is known to be the place of intense change in being. This planet is somehow like Pandora's Box but it may also contain hidden qualities that will regenerate and rebirth and not destroy. Bad occurrences start the rule of Pluto but when exercised as to control, the outcomes are often on the bright side and can cause good change.

All these are just a guide that will aid us in our daily lives. They serve as signs that will lead you on the right path. Now, it is up to you to believe it.

Your lack of a degree should not end your career

Some job seekers harbor a secret that prevents them from applying for work they know they could do. Or they worry that if this fact comes to light in a job interview, it will explode and cause them to be led unceremoniously to the door.

These are the people who went to college but never got a degree.

People who have had “ some college” are far from rare. After six years, more than 40 percent of those who started at a four-year institution have not finished, according to data from the Education Department.

Some may have decided that college wasn’t right for them; some will take longer than six years to finish. But for many others, life intervenes, said Jacqueline E. King, assistant vice president for policy analysis at the American Council on Education, which represents degree-granting institutions. They may have decided to start a family, or had to care for a sick relative or took on more responsibility at work.

Then more life happens, and as the years go by, that piece of paper with the calligraphy, gold seal and signatures of bigwigs becomes ever more elusive.

Owning that paper may seem especially important when the unemployment rate is high. Many employers are now reflexively listing a bachelor’s degree as a requirement; it’s an easy way to help whittle down hundreds of applications into a manageable pile.

Don’t lie on your resume about having a bachelor’s degree, but if you spent some time at college, write down “ bachelor’s studies,” with the name of the institution you attended, said Katy Piotrowski, a career counselor based in Fort Collins, Colorado, and an author of career books. That could get you past the initial screening.

Still, if you respond to an online job posting that requires a bachelor’s degree  and you don’t have one, you are much more likely to end up in the “no” pile. That’s why it is especially important for those without degrees to rely on networking, Piotrowski said.
If, through your connections, you can convince someone to give you an interview, you can show how your skills, qualities and experience make you right for a job – and that whole degree business may well melt away.

Piotrowski said that hiring managers should realize that employees who don’t have degrees can be some of the hardest – working and most loyal, for the very reason that they feel themselves to be at a disadvantage in the job market.

Some people wear their lack of a degree as if it’s a scarlet letter, she said. Just about the first words out of their mouths at an interview are, “ I don’t have a B.A., but…” she said.
There’s no need to mention that you don’t have a degree unless you’re asked, Piotrowski said. And remember that everyone has blips in their past. “ Put in perspective this small piece of the total picture and don’t focus on it,” she said.

One of Piortrowski’s clients, Michele McCreath, 46, has more than two years of college but never got a degree, she said, having quit more than two decades ago to raise her two children. She started working again when her younger child was in third grade.

Without a degree, she obtained her current job as a marketing director at a telecommunications business. But the company has told her that she will be part of a coming layoff, she said, and she will need to find a new job.

“Companies that have looked past not having the degree, and have seen the experience, have always been really pleased with my work,” McCreath said. But in this economy, she knows that she has to pickup the phone and use her connections to find a way in the door. She is also working on completing professional certificates as a meeting planner and a trade show marketer.

At this stage in her life, McCreath said, earning such certificates is a realistic goal. She is open to the idea of finishing her degree, she said, but “it’s really hard to go to work full time and go to school full time and have a life.”

But for some people, getting a degree may be more feasible. For some suggestions on how to get started, you might look at the Center for Lifelong Learningon the Web site of the American Council on Education. Check with your former college, with schools in your area or with online universities to find out about programs for adult learners, King said.

More schools are reaching out to students who never finished degree requirements, creating flexible programs that can be particularly helpful to those who have just a few credits left, she said. If you are unemployed and unable to find new work,  this could be an excellent time to go back to school. Money may be an issue, of course. But financial aid is available for nontraditional students, she said.

If you have only a few credits to go, why let them dog you for the rest of your life? For some people, Piotrowski said, the hours spent worrying about not having a degree could be spent actually getting one.

Amid all the practical considerations, don’t forget that you might learn something, too. When people return to school later in life, King said, they are often pleasantly surprised at how much they actually enjoy the learning process.

What to do after interview mishaps

Job interviews can be nerve-wracking and a slipup or two is inevitable. You might think that a mistake might cost you a job, but it is not always the case. It is best to be aware of the most commonly committed mistakes, as the best way to avoid making them is to know about them beforehand.

You were nervous and couldn’t answer.

Preparing for the interview can help calm you down, because interviews are unfamiliar situations; ‘ practice interviews’ can make you feel more at ease with the situation. But if you’re there and you couldn’t answer, try politely asking the interviewer to clarify the question. Take a deep breath, then quickly analyze the question. Don’t try to make a list of answers; instead focus on one good idea you have then develop it.

You are late.

If you think that you are going to be late for 10 minutes at most, call your interviewer and tell them when you can make it. do not forget to apologize and give a valid reason (‘I woke up late’ does not count). If you are going to be more than ten minutes late, ask if they want you to keep heading for their office or id they want to push the interview to a later date. Even though your action may be perceived negatively, express that you know their time is valuable. Once you get there, give a proper apology, let the issue go down the drain, and never dwell on it because doing so will only make matters worse.

You kept saying, “ um, ah, like, ano…”

These filler words, along with long pauses, make you appear less articulate and unsure of yourself. Eliminating this take time and needs to be a cautious, steady effort. Situations like a job interview can make a person nervous, resulting in the use of verbal fillers. Pay close attention at the way you talk. Listen for your use of these fillers at all times and when you notice that you have been doing it for a while, simply slow down, get your verbal composure back, and try to focus on constructing your sentences better. Discipline yourself to pause even in the middle of sentences while you struggle to think of the next word you want to use.

You had out-of-date or incorrect information on your resume.

This often happens when an applicant revises his or her resume and fails to remove some of the out-dated (the wrong address, the number of the cell phone you lost), mistaken ( you misspelled your old company’s name or listed the wrong person as your superior) or irrelevant data (hobbies, likes/dislikes, etc.). Once the error is spotted by your interviewer, own it up to it and apologize. Complete transparency is the best solution. Give an explanation as to how and why it happened but make sure that you do not sound like you are only trying to make an excuse. Show that you have high integrity through your words despite the lapse.

You cursed or said the wrong thing.

First, stay calm. Do not draw more attention to it by crying or repeating the act; instead, apologize then take a deep breath and ask for a moment so you can clarify your statement.

You offended the interviewer.

Maybe it was the tone of your voice when you answered the question; maybe you expressed an opinion that the interviewer found offensive; maybe you interrupted the interviewer. Whatever it is, apologize immediately. If you don’t know how you offended your interviewer, offer an apology before you ask what you did wrong. Do not get angry as well; even if you don’t understand what you did wrong, it might be a situation to test how you handle unpleasant situations. Be contrite and express a desire to improve. But if you said something truly rude (like telling a female interviewer that you believe “women have no place in the workplace; only men should work”) then perhaps its best to excuse yourself, apologize, then ask permission to leave. HR personnel share stories with each other so it is important to express your sincere apologies and not to leave on a sour note.
