The record for the smelliest substances on Earth is given to two man-made compounds: Who-Me? and the United States Government’s Standard Bathroom Malodor.

Who-me? has five chemical ingredients. This sulphur-based substance smells of rotting food and carcass. It was originally developed during World War II to be used by French resistance fighters to humiliate German soldiers by making them smell horrible. However, since it was impossible to properly target the smell, it just ended up polluting large areas.

Bathroom Malodor has eight chemical ingredients. It was developed as a way of testing the effectiveness of deodorants and air fresheners. It emits an incredibly unpleasant odor that resembles human waste.
